Isgård, Manor house in Syddjurs Municipality, Denmark
Isgård is a three-winged manor house with whitewashed exterior walls standing on a hill of the Mols peninsula, overlooking Aarhus Bay. The estate spans about 246 hectares of varied landscape with fields, forested areas, parkland, and several lakes.
The current main building was designed and constructed in the 1890s by architect J.H. Krieger according to period standards. This construction shaped the estate into its present form.
The Gersdorff family shaped life here across generations and built a family chapel in nearby Tved church. This connection reveals how deeply the estate's owners were rooted in local society.
The grounds are generously laid out and offer visitors many areas to explore, from open fields to forested sections. It is best to allow plenty of time and wear sturdy shoes depending on the season, as paths and terrain vary.
Census records from 1787 provide detailed information about the residents and show a complete picture of the household with owners, their families, and numerous servants. These documents offer rare insights into everyday life on large estates during that period.
