Kastelsmøllen, Windmill in Copenhagen, Denmark
Kastelsmøllen is a windmill in Copenhagen, Denmark. It has a wooden body with a shingled exterior, four sails, and a domed cap, and it stands on a historic fortress.
Built in 1847, the mill replaced earlier structures and operated until 1903. It was restored and remains a functional windmill, representing the last of its kind in the city.
The mill is a symbol of Copenhagen's milling history and is celebrated on Danish Mill Day. It also hosts events for the fortress's birthday, where visitors can see the mill in operation.
The mill is located on the historic Kastellet fortress, which is open to the public. Visitors can walk around the area and see the mill from the outside, but access to the interior is limited to special events.
The mill's sails are turned a quarter turn each month to keep them in good condition. It is one of only two surviving mills from the original fortifications.
