Water Art, Bronze sculpture near Rundetårn, Copenhagen, Denmark
Water Art is a bronze sculpture at Kultorvet Square featuring water that flows continuously across its rounded surface. An internal pump system keeps the water moving, combining functional design with artistic form.
The National Bank of Denmark commissioned this work in 1967 to celebrate Copenhagen's 800th anniversary. Installation took place in 1970 at the square, creating a permanent public art landmark.
Danish artist Anders Tinsbo created the sculpture using the lost-wax process, incorporating influences from sculptors Henry Moore, Max Bill, and Jean Arp.
The sculpture sits in a public square and is freely accessible at any time. Visit during daylight hours to best observe the water system and how it moves across the form.
Artist Anders Tinsbo chose not to give the work a title, allowing each viewer to form their own meaning. This openness makes each encounter with the sculpture a personal experience.
