Mærsk Tower, Research facility at University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Mærsk Tower is a contemporary university building at the University of Copenhagen that combines research laboratories, lecture halls, and offices within its distinctive copper-clad exterior. The structure spans multiple connected floors with a design emphasizing accessibility and openness throughout.
The building resulted from a partnership between a Danish property agency and the University of Copenhagen, completed in 2017. Its construction represented a major investment in updating university facilities for contemporary research needs.
The Science Plazas within create spaces where researchers from different fields naturally cross paths and work together. These shared areas reflect a philosophy of science as an open, collaborative practice rather than closed individual effort.
A public walkway for pedestrians and cyclists runs through parts of the complex, connecting two main streets with an easy route. Most facilities inside are accessible to visitors, though some research areas remain restricted to students and staff.
The building's most distinctive feature is its copper cladding, which gradually develops a green patina over time, visibly changing the structure's appearance. This natural weathering process makes the building transform continuously, becoming different each season.
