Jijel Province, Administrative province in northeastern Algeria

Jijel Province is located in northeastern Algeria, featuring mountainous terrain and sandy beaches alongside varying elevations. The territory is divided into eleven administrative districts and twenty-eight municipalities connected by roads linking to nearby cities.

The province was established in 1974 from parts of Constantine and Setif departments, becoming an independent administrative unit. In 1984, Mila Province was separated from it, reshaping its boundaries.

The province reflects Mediterranean traditions visible in local markets and festivals, where residents prepare regional seafood and citrus dishes. This way of life has remained rooted in coastal communities for generations.

Visitors can reach the province via roads connecting to major cities like Bejaia and Constantine. The best time to visit depends on interest: coastal areas are busier in summer, while mountain regions remain accessible year-round.

Taza National Park lies within the province and protects rare Mediterranean plant species and populations of Barbary macaques. This protected area makes the region an important habitat for endangered species in North Africa.
