Boumerdès Province, Administrative province in northern Algeria
Boumerdès is a province in northern Algeria stretching over 100 kilometers of Mediterranean coastline. The territory comprises nine districts and includes approximately 32 municipalities that make up the administrative region.
The province was established in 1984 during Algeria's administrative reorganization. The area has ancient roots, with Phoenician settlements formerly located at Zemmouri El Bahri, Djinet, and Dellys.
The region reflects both Arab and Berber heritage through its towns and daily life. You'll notice residents speaking Arabic and Kabyle as you move through local markets and neighborhoods.
The province is accessible year-round, with warmer months being best for coastal visits. Urban centers and universities are well-distributed throughout the territory, making it convenient to explore both seaside areas and traditional settlements.
A seismic event near Zemmouri in 2003 caused significant damage and prompted a major review of construction standards. This event fundamentally changed how new structures are designed and built throughout the region.
