Batna

Batna is a city situated between the northern and southern Atlas Mountains at around 1000 meters elevation, serving as a natural passage through these mountain ranges. The urban area contains commercial districts, residential neighborhoods, regional restaurants, shops, and several sports facilities that shape daily life in the community.

French military forces built a fortress in 1844 to control the passage between the Sahara and the Atlas Mountains, which led to the founding of Nouvelle Lambese. This settlement became an important administrative and commercial hub connecting the regions on either side of the mountains.
