Beni Add Caves

The Beni Add Caves extend approximately 700 meters and descend roughly 57 meters below the mountain surface. The system displays impressive limestone structures and multiple chambers open to exploration.

Amazigh tribes discovered this cave in ancient times and later sought refuge within it. During the Algerian War of Independence from 1954 to 1962, the caves served as an important shelter for those resisting.

The limestone formations inside resemble Arabic swords, which inspired the name of the Sword Chamber. Visitors can observe these natural sculptures and their connection to local traditions as they move through the passage.

The cave maintains a constant temperature of around 13 degrees Celsius throughout the year, making visits comfortable in any season. Sturdy footwear and a flashlight are important since some areas are dark and slippery.

Local doves have established their nests in the cave's recesses, creating a natural aviary in this underground setting. This animal occupation shows how the caves function as a habitat for local wildlife.
