El-Ourit Waterfalls, Natural waterfall complex in Tlemcen, Algeria.
El-Ourit Waterfalls are a natural cascade on the edge of Tlemcen in northwestern Algeria, where the Oued El-Ourit river drops over several rock ledges through a pine-covered mountain valley. The water falls in seven stages, forming a stepped natural drop.
The cascade dried up completely at some point in the 20th century and stayed dry for roughly four decades. In 2009, water returned naturally and brought the site back to life.
Local families come here on weekends and holidays to picnic and walk under the pine trees. The place feels more like a neighborhood gathering spot than a tourist attraction.
The falls are about 7 kilometers from Tlemcen city center and reachable by the main road, where parking is available. Coming after heavy rain or during the wetter months gives the best chance of seeing a strong flow.
Even though water has returned, the cascade can run almost completely dry during a harsh summer, leaving the rocky ledges almost bare. The same spot can look very different depending on the season.
