The Sidi Bel Hasan Mosque stands next to the Great Mosque of Tlemcen, featuring modest architectural elements with interlocking cedar logs in its ceiling structure.
Founded in 1296 by emir Abi Ibrahim ibn Yahya during the Zayyanid era, the mosque received its name from qadi Abi al-Hassan who served under Sultan Abi Sayeed Uthman.
The prayer hall contains inscriptions on the western wall, while the mosque now functions as a dedicated space for displaying Islamic calligraphy collections.
Located at coordinates 34.8828 latitude and -1.3111 longitude in southwest Tlemcen, the mosque maintains regular opening hours for both worship and museum visits.
The mosque introduced the interlocking cedar log ceiling technique to Algeria, preceding similar architectural elements in Andalusian Moorish design by several centuries.
