Tallinn Airport is the main air traffic facility of Estonia and sits 4 kilometers southeast of the city center near Lake Ülemiste. The terminal connects arrival and departure zones in a single modern building that handles regular international and domestic connections.
The facility began operations on September 20, 1936, and remained under exclusive Aeroflot control from 1945 until Scandinavian Airlines arrived in 1989. With Estonian independence came gradual modernization and opening to Western European carriers.
The facility received its current name in honor of Lennart Meri, a former president of Estonia who shaped the country's international relations. Passengers today encounter a terminal with bright spaces and wooden design elements that reflect the Nordic character of the region.
Travelers reach the city center using bus number 2, which stops at departure and arrival areas and requires electronic QR tickets for the ride. The terminal remains open around the clock and offers basic services for passengers with early or late flights.
