Jüriöö Park, Public park in Ülemiste, Estonia
Jüriöö Park is a public park in the Lasnamäe district that spreads across the Sõjamäe elevation. It features multiple walking paths, seating areas, and meeting spaces, with a variety of tree and shrub species throughout the grounds.
The park was named in 1995 to honor the St. George's Night Uprising of 1343 against Danish rule in Estonia. Development of the grounds began in the late 1950s and shaped the space into what it is today.
Three memorial monuments stand within the park, including one honoring those who fought in the Estonian War of Independence. These structures mark how national memory is woven into the everyday landscape.
The park is easy to navigate with well-maintained paths throughout. Visit during warmer months when all pathways and seating areas are fully accessible and comfortable to use.
The MTÜ Jüriöö Park organization has managed the site since 2002, demonstrating how a citizen-led initiative sustains both the natural environment and historical memory. This stewardship approach reflects the community's commitment to maintaining the space over the long term.
