Linnahall, Concert hall in Kalamaja, Tallinn, Estonia.
Linnahall is a concrete multi-purpose complex by the water in Kalamaja, Tallinn, Estonia. The rectangular structure consists of several levels with wide steps leading to viewing surfaces that look out over the coastline.
The building was finished in 1980 as the V. I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sports to host sailing competitions during the Moscow Summer Olympics. After the Soviet era ended the complex received its current Estonian name and closed its doors in 2010.
The name combines the Estonian word for citadel with a reference to the open hall design that defines its layout. The building now stands empty and is visited by skaters, walkers and people who come to look out over the water from its platforms.
The complex is accessible around the clock and offers free access to its outdoor surfaces and stairways. The site sits right by the water and can be reached on foot or by bicycle from the city center.
A helipad on the roof measuring 8 meters in length served as the only public heliport in Estonia with flights to Helsinki. The building was used as a filming location for the 2019 movie Tenet where it represented an opera house in Kyiv.
