Rannamägi, Historical park on former bastion site in central Tallinn, Estonia.
Rannamägi is a park built on the grounds of a former military bastion in central Tallinn, featuring rolling green spaces and walking paths. The site spans the former Skoone Bastion area and now serves as a significant open space in the northern part of the city.
The Skoone Bastion was constructed starting in 1683 as part of a comprehensive defense system, becoming one of only three completed fortifications out of eleven originally planned structures. The grounds were later transformed into a park and now stand as a reminder of Tallinn's military heritage.
The area transformed from military fortification to public space in 1867 when Tallinn authorities converted the bastion into a landscaped park setting.
The park sits between Rannamäe Road and Põhja Boulevard and is easily accessible on foot, with playgrounds and fitness equipment scattered throughout. It is best visited during warmer months and wearing sturdy shoes is recommended since the terrain is hilly.
The grounds host one of Eastern Europe's oldest parkour facilities, where visitors can try this modern training style. The area also features skateboard ramps and outdoor fitness equipment, making it a gathering point for athletic activities.
