Roheline turg, Protected park in Vanalinn, Estonia.
Roheline turg is a protected park in the Old Town between Pika and Olevimäe streets, featuring green spaces, walking paths, and seating areas throughout. An Orthodox chapel built in 1909 stands at Pikk 34A within the grounds.
This park was founded in 1893 and gained an Orthodox chapel in 1909 that served religious functions until the early 1960s. After that period, the chapel was converted for other uses.
The chapel within the grounds changed from a religious building into a telephone booth and small shop before eventually being returned to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral parish. This transformation tells the story of how sacred spaces were adapted to meet practical needs during different periods.
The park is open daily for visitors and offers paths for exploring as well as spots to sit and rest. The green spaces work well for a short walk or to relax while staying near the Old Town.
The park preserves the structure of historical property boundaries that define its extent from Pika to Olevimäe street. These lines remain visible in the city layout and give the space its distinctive shape.
