Jüri Church, Lutheran church in Jüri, Estonia
Jüri Church is a stone structure located in Rae Rural Municipality, constructed in its present form during 1885. The building sits in a rural setting and displays architectural features characteristic of religious structures from that era.
A predecessor church stood at this location from 1401 before the current building took over its function. The new structure was built in the 19th century to replace the older religious building that no longer met the community's needs.
The church continues to host Lutheran services and serves as a gathering place for the local community in everyday religious life. Through its presence, it maintains the spiritual traditions that have shaped Rae Parish for generations.
The church lies about 12 kilometers southeast of Tallinn and can be reached by regular transport connections. Being located in a rural municipality, visitor access may be more limited than in the capital, so checking opening times in advance is recommended.
Pastor Anton Thor Helle served at this location and created the first Bible translation into Estonian. His work between 1713 and 1748 made religious texts accessible to the local population.
