Läänemaa Suursoo Nature Park, Nature park in Lääne-Harju Rural Municipality, Estonia
Läänemaa Suursoo Nature Park is a protected area in Estonia covering roughly 10,300 hectares of interconnected wetlands, forests, and lakes. The landscape combines bog formations, wooded sections, and water bodies that create diverse habitats across the entire zone.
The area was designated as a protected zone in 1981 to safeguard Veskijärv Lake and surrounding bog regions from development and use. A reclassification in 2005 expanded and refined the protection framework.
The nature park represents Estonian commitment to environmental preservation, integrating scientific research stations with educational programs focused on local ecosystems.
The park can be accessed through marked trails that connect different parts of the landscape and nearby areas. Designated viewing areas help visitors observe wildlife, particularly birds, throughout the protected region.
The park contains bog vegetation found in few other places, with rare plant communities adapted to waterlogged soil and standing water. These wetland conditions also attract bird species that breed in the remote ponds and marshes.
