Vihterpalu manor, Neoclassical manor in Harju County, Estonia
Vihterpalu is a rectangular manor in Harju County featuring late neoclassical details with a central pedimented section across its main facade. The stone building displays architectural elements that underscore its historical importance as a former family estate.
King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden granted the estate in 1622 to nobleman Thomas von Ramm, whose family held it for nearly 300 years. The property remained under their ownership until 1919 when it changed hands.
The manor functions today as a meeting place for Estonian celebrations, conferences, and community gatherings where visitors experience local traditions. People use its spaces for weddings and social events that shape the cultural life of the region.
The manor sits about an hour from Tallinn and offers overnight stays in decorated rooms plus a restaurant serving regional specialties. Visitors can stay overnight or come for meals while exploring the rural surroundings.
A Finnish businessman who purchased the manor in 1994 lost his life in the MS Estonia ferry disaster before completing renovation plans. The estate was later restored by subsequent owners who realized his vision.
