Paepark, Public park in Sikupilli, Estonia
Paepark features approximately 2 kilometers of asphalt paths that loop around a lake formed from a former limestone quarry. The flat terrain makes it suitable for walking, running, and cycling at different fitness levels.
The site originated as a limestone quarry, and after mining ceased, a lake remained that was eventually developed into a public park. This transformation reflects how old industrial sites have been repurposed into recreational spaces for the community.
The park serves as a meeting spot where local residents play boules, roller skate, and spend time outdoors together. You often see groups gathered along the waterside and on the paths, making it a social gathering place.
Lighting along the paths allows for visits at different times of day, and designated rest areas and seating spots are scattered throughout. The flat paved surface is easy to navigate for visitors of all abilities.
The lake is home to various bird species including mute swans and little grebes that visitors can observe while walking. Carp were intentionally introduced to enrich the aquatic ecosystem and support wildlife diversity.
