Raadi Manor, Noble estate in Tartu-Maarja parish, Estonia
Raadi Manor is a noble estate from the 18th century with several outbuildings including a water tower and ice cellar in Tartu. Restored walls encircle a spacious park where Raadi Lake sits at its center.
The manor was built in 1783 and remained the von Liphardt family home until World War I brought political upheaval that forced them to leave. Its story reflects the changing fortunes of Baltic nobility during that era.
The von Liphardt family built up a noteworthy art collection of drawings and prints that reflected their personal taste and values. Today you can see how their collecting habits shaped what the Estonian National Museum now preserves from this era.
The grounds are open daily from morning through late evening and are located on Narva Street 177 in Tartu. Wear comfortable shoes since the park encourages walking and the paths spread across the entire property.
After 1940 roughly one third of the property became a Soviet airfield operating secretly as a bomber base for decades. Traces of this military phase remain visible in the landscape that visitors can still observe today.
