The Ramesseum is the memorial temple (or mortuary temple) of Pharaoh Ramesses II.
It was built in the 13th century BC and is located in the Theban necropolis in Upper Egypt, across the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor.
The Ramesseum contains one of the largest free-standing statues in Egypt, a figure of Ramesses II that originally stood over 17 meters high.
Today, the site is open to the public and can be accessed via a short ferry ride across the Nile.
The Ramesseum is known as the 'Temple of Millions of Years' and inspired the poem 'Ozymandias'.
