Layer Pyramid

The Layer Pyramid features a square base of limestone blocks and contains 32 storage chambers along a central corridor beneath the structure.

Construction of this pyramid began during the Third Dynasty of Egypt, approximately 2630 BC, under the reign of King Khaba.

The pyramid complex includes multiple burial sites from five different periods, spanning from the First Dynasty through the Roman era.

The structure stands at 17 meters tall with five visible steps, though access remains restricted as the site lies within a military zone.

Inside the pyramid, archaeologists discovered an unusual pink granite sarcophagus, distinct from typical rectangular burial containers of ancient Egypt.
