Ras Muhammad National Park

The protected area spans 480 square kilometers at the meeting point of the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea.

The Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency established this first national park of Egypt in 1983 to safeguard marine ecosystems from harmful fishing methods.

The name derives from Arabic, where Ras means headland, and local interpretations connect the cliff formation to the profile of a bearded face.

The marine reserve contains multiple entry points for divers and snorkelers, with Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef offering prime underwater observation spots.

The park houses 220 coral species, 1000 fish species, and a small mangrove forest that supports green turtles and hawksbill turtles.
