Tomb of Panehsy

The Tomb of Panehsy is an ancient burial monument in Amarna featuring detailed carved wall scenes depicting the tomb owner's life and role. The relief images show ceremonial moments, rewards given by the ruler, and religious practices shared with the royal family.

The tomb was built during the Amarna Period when Egyptian society embraced a radical shift in religious beliefs and practices. In later centuries, the space was repurposed into a Christian chapel, marking a transformation in its function and meaning.

The wall scenes display religious imagery from Akhenaten's reign centered on the sun god Aten and daily practices of the royal court. These depictions show how the period's new faith shaped the lives and relationships of those in power.

The site is located in a rocky area at the edge of the ancient settlement and is accessible via marked pathways and modern stairs. Visitors should prepare for uneven terrain and strong sunlight exposure.
