Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, Art museum and cultural center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.
Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is a contemporary art center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife characterized by its striking facade of roughly 1,200 glass windows of varying sizes that form geometric patterns. The building houses exhibition galleries, a public library, the island's Photography Center, a shop, and a cafe all within one structure.
The project originated from a concept developed in 1995 and was realized through the architectural design of Herzog & de Meuron, an internationally acclaimed firm. The center opened in October 2008 and quickly established itself as a key cultural venue on the island.
The center's permanent collection showcases works by Óscar Domínguez, a surrealist painter whose pieces reflect the island's modern artistic identity. Rotating exhibitions bring contemporary artists from around the world, making it a dynamic space where local and international perspectives meet.
The center is easily accessible in central Santa Cruz with parking available and good public transport connections. Visitors should allow plenty of time to explore the exhibitions at leisure and discover the various spaces including the library and photography galleries.
A striking 7-meter tall cast iron sculpture called Carla by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa stands at the entrance, created in 2023. This figurative work immediately captures visitors' attention and marks the approach to the center in an unforgettable way.
