Ajuria Enea, Presidential residence in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
Ajuria Enea is a palace in neo-Basque style in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, displaying clean lines with traditional elements on its facade. The building stands in a garden with century-old trees and serves today as the workplace and residence of the Basque Country president.
The palace was built in 1920 by Swiss architect Alfred Baeschlin for industrialist Serafín Ajuria. The building was designated the official residence of Basque Country presidents in 1980.
The building displays neo-Basque style using regional materials and construction methods that express a distinct local identity. The architecture reflects craftsmanship traditions that are characteristic of the region.
The building is located near the city center and is easy to reach, though not directly on the main thoroughfare. Visitors can view the exterior and gardens, and it is helpful to know that an impression can be gained from outside.
Between 1972 and 1974, the building housed an art museum for Álava province. This period marked an important phase before the house took on its current role.
