Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba
Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba, Archaeological museum in Córdoba, Spain
The Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba houses artifacts from prehistoric times to the Al-Andalus period within a Renaissance palace. The collection spreads across eight rooms and three courtyards, with a modern extension that added new exhibition areas.
The institution was founded in 1868 and moved to the Palacio de los Páez de Castillejo in 1965. This palace was designed by architect Hernán Ruiz Jiménez and has served as its permanent home since then.
The museum displays objects from different periods that reflect the religious and everyday practices of people who lived in Córdoba. Visitors can see how craftsmanship, beliefs, and ways of life changed over thousands of years.
The entrance is located at Plaza de Jerónimo Páez, and the grounds offer plenty of space to explore without feeling crowded. Plan time to walk through the courtyards and visit both the original rooms and the newer extension.
During construction of the extension, workers discovered a Roman theater underground, which was later restored and integrated into the exhibition. This unexpected find highlights the archaeological richness hidden beneath the building's foundation.
