Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba, Archaeological museum in Córdoba, Spain

The Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba displays archaeological artifacts from prehistoric times through the Al-Andalus period across eight rooms and three courtyards in a Renaissance palace.

Founded in 1868, the museum found its permanent home in 1965 at the Palacio de los Páez de Castillejo, designed by architect Hernán Ruiz Jiménez.

The museum preserves and exhibits historical objects that document the evolution of different civilizations that shaped the region of Córdoba through millennia.

Located at Plaza de Jerónimo Páez in Córdoba, the museum received 285,311 visitors in 2022 and features a modern extension inaugurated in 2011.

During the construction of the museum extension, workers discovered a Roman theater in the basement, which has been restored and integrated into the exhibition space.

Historical monuments in Córdoba: Mosque-Cathedral, Alcázar, Roman bridge

The historical monuments of Córdoba document architectural development from the 1st to the 20th century. The Mosque-Cathedral with its 856 columns forms the centerpiece of the religious heritage. The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos with its terraced gardens and the Roman bridge over the Guadalquivir River bear witness to the Roman and Moorish past. The archaeological site of Medina Azahara lies outside the city and displays the remains of the 10th-century palace city. Medieval churches and Renaissance palaces line the historic center. Traditional courtyards with fountains and flowers characterize the residential quarters of the old town.
