Torres Blancas, Modernist skyscraper in Avenida de América, Madrid, Spain.
Torres Blancas is a residential tower in Madrid that rises over several stories with circular platforms, expansive balconies, and exposed concrete throughout its structure. The building combines apartments with garden terraces, communal spaces, and a rooftop swimming pool.
Architect Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza designed this residence tower in 1961 and constructed it between 1964 and 1969. The design marked an early application of organic and brutalist approaches to modern Spanish urban development.
The building blends organic forms with raw concrete in ways that feel natural and alive. Its circular balconies and terraces shape daily life for residents and define its distinctive appearance.
This tower sits on Avenida de América in an easily accessible part of the city with good connections. The exterior can be admired from the street at any time, and walking around it from different angles gives the best view of its shape.
The semicircular balconies are the actual load-bearing structure, not just decoration, which is a rare approach in building design. These curved forms create a shifting pattern of light and shadow that changes throughout the day.
