Court of the Lions, Islamic courtyard in Alhambra, Spain

The rectangular courtyard features a central marble fountain with twelve lion sculptures surrounding its basin and 124 white marble columns forming a gallery.

Sultan Muhammad V commissioned the construction of this palace section between 1362 and 1391, marking the height of Nasrid architectural achievements in Granada.

The fountain basin contains inscribed poems by Ibn Zamrak, reflecting the advanced literary and artistic expressions of medieval Islamic Spain.

Visitors can access the courtyard daily from 8:30 to 18:00 during winter months and until 20:00 in summer, with specific time slots for entry.

Four water channels extend from the central fountain to adjacent halls, demonstrating the advanced hydraulic engineering systems developed during the Nasrid period.

Granada, between Moorish palaces, secret courtyards, and Andalusian art

Grenada is a city experienced like a poem. At the foot of the Sierra Nevada, it combines Muslim heritage, Catholic fervor, and Andalusian rhythm. Behind ochre facades lie shaded patios, fountains, mosaics, and carved arches that tell eight centuries of history. The Alhambra watches over the city like a stone dream, the Albaicín district unfolds its white alleys, and the gardens of Generalife recall the delicacy of Nasrid rulers. At every turn, a bell tower follows a minaret, an Arab market opens onto a baroque cathedral. Granada is as much an open-air museum as a living place, where flamenco still escapes from the Sacromonte caves. Between spirituality, art, and jasmine fragrance, the Andalusian city retains an elusive, almost mystical beauty.
