Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes, Fine arts museum inside Palace of Charles V, Granada, Spain
The Provincial Museum of Fine Arts occupies the first floor of the Palace of Charles V and displays paintings and sculptures spanning from the 15th to the 20th century. The rooms present different artistic movements and approaches developed over these five centuries.
The museum was founded in 1839 at the Santa Cruz la Real convent and relocated to the Palace of Charles V within the Alhambra in 1958. This move placed the collections in a more accessible location for visitors exploring the palace and its surroundings.
The collection features works by Spanish artists, with a significant presence of sculptures and paintings by Alonso Cano, who was born in Granada. His pieces shape the character of the galleries and reflect the city's artistic heritage.
The museum is accessible through the Granada Card, which also grants entry to the Alhambra and its grounds. Plan your visit to explore the galleries at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.
The collection includes many religious artworks obtained from monasteries and churches that were closed during the 19th century. These pieces document the artistic output of religious communities across several centuries.
