The church features three naves intersected by a transept, crowned with a remarkable dome and constructed using limestone and reddish sandstone materials.
Construction began in 1170 under King Ferdinand II of León, taking approximately 80 years to complete with influences from the Zamora Cathedral design.
The northern portal displays intricate Gothic sculptures depicting Christ in Majesty alongside the Virgin Mary, Saint John, and 24 Apocalypse elders.
The church museum contains Flemish artworks, religious silverware, and a 1538 silver monstrance, with general admission priced at 4 euros.
The Portico of Majesty presents detailed polychrome sculptures narrating the Virgin Mary's life, restored through a 14-year conservation project.
