Alcázar de Toro, Medieval fortress in Toro, Spain

The Alcázar of Toro stands on elevated ground near the Duero River, featuring a rhomboid layout with seven solid towers at its corners and walls.

The fortress witnessed the Battle of Toro in 1476, which determined the succession of Isabella I of Castile to the Spanish throne against Juana la Beltraneja.

This royal residence served as a coronation site for Fernando III in 1230, marking the unification of the kingdoms of Castile and León.

The fortress remains open to visitors every day except Mondays throughout the year, with free admission and guided tours explaining its military architecture.

The structure transformed from a royal residence to multiple functions through centuries, including a powder storage, prison, and municipal slaughterhouse.
