The Basilica of St. John of Avila features a monumental altarpiece, multiple paintings from renowned artists, and the tomb of the House of Aguilar.
The original church, founded in 1568 with support from the Marquis of Priego, underwent reconstruction in 1726 and received minor basilica status in 2012.
The basilica holds the remains of Saint John of Avila, who was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church in October 2012 by the Catholic authorities.
Located at Calle Corredera 23, the basilica stands within walking distance of other religious sites including San Sebastian Church and Santiago Apostol Church.
The interior contains artworks by Valdés Leal and Zurbarán, along with a 16th-century piece by an unidentified artist behind the main altar.
