Edificio Media-TIC, Technology center in Poblenou district, Barcelona, Spain
Edificio Media-TIC is a contemporary office building in the El Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou neighborhood of Barcelona, recognized for its cubic form. Its four facades are covered with white ETFE polymer cushions that filter natural light and give the structure its recognizable appearance.
The building was commissioned in 2007 and completed in 2010, designed by architect Enrique Ruiz Geli. It was built during the period when the Poblenou district was shifting away from its industrial past toward becoming a base for technology companies.
The building houses Barcelona Activa, a city-run space that brings together people from technology and creative fields. Those who step inside find open work areas where activity is visible throughout the day.
The building sits in a walkable area where former industrial structures stand alongside newer projects, making the surrounding streets worth exploring on foot. Visiting on a weekday gives a better chance of seeing the interior in use.
The ETFE cushions on the facades can be inflated or deflated to control how much light enters, adjusting throughout the day. This makes the building one of the few in Europe to use such a skin at this scale.
