Jardins de Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer, Urban garden in Montjuïc, Spain.
The Jardins de Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer is an urban garden on Montjuïc with a gentle downward slope and lush planting throughout. The grounds feature around thirty interconnected ponds filled with water plants, linked by walking paths that wind through flowerbeds.
The gardens opened in 1970 on land that was once quarried for stone, later becoming integrated into the broader Montjuïc park system. This transformation shows how industrial sites were reimagined as spaces for recreation and cultural remembrance.
The place is named after Catalan poet Jacint Verdaguer, reflecting a connection between literature and nature. Two sculptures throughout the grounds, including one depicting the bond between mother and child, invite visitors to pause and reflect on shared human experiences.
This location is situated near the Montjuïc Funicular station on Carrer dels Tarongers and is open daily from 10:00 until sunset with free admission. Visitors can walk the entire grounds on well-marked paths that accommodate a leisurely pace.
Each year approximately 80,000 bulbs are planted in a rotating schedule that keeps the grounds in color throughout all seasons. This carefully planned rotation using tulips, dahlias, and lilies means the park looks distinctly different depending on when you visit.
