Plaza de las Angustias, Public garden and heritage site in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain
Plaza de las Angustias is a garden with a central fountain and shaded green spaces in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera. Large trees create natural shelter and make the space comfortable for walking and sitting.
The plaza was founded in 1578 with a devotional cross and later developed into a public gathering space. In 1839 the city's first bullring was built on the site.
The plaza includes a monument dedicated to aviator Juan Manuel Duran Gonzalez, who participated in the first transatlantic seaplane crossing in 1926.
The plaza has several seating areas near cafes and shops, making it easy to spend time relaxing. The pedestrianized design means visitors can walk freely without worrying about traffic.
The Chapel of Las Angustias stands next to the plaza and dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. It reveals the spiritual roots that shaped this urban space long ago.
