Castell de Cervelló

Castell de Cervelló is a medieval castle perched on a hilltop within the Ordal mountains, featuring a polygonal ground plan with reddish stone walls. A trapezoidal tower forms one of its main structural elements, and the layout includes a lower enclosure with a chapel.

The structure was first documented in 904 and endured multiple conflicts, including Arab invasions, before suffering partial destruction during the War of Spanish Succession in 1714. This long history of resistance left lasting marks on its architecture and layout.

The fortress holds official status as a Cultural Asset of National Interest, representing medieval defensive architecture that shaped the region's historical landscape.

The hilltop location requires a climb to reach the site, and visitors should wear comfortable shoes for walking on uneven terrain. The surrounding landscape offers good views, making the effort worthwhile for most visitors.

Excavations conducted with the Autonomous University of Barcelona uncovered ancient ceramics, weapons, and a previously unknown floor within the ruins. These discoveries reveal details about daily life during the castle's occupation.
