Palacio de las Cortes, Parliament building at Plaza de las Cortes, Madrid, Spain
The Palacio de las Cortes features a neoclassical facade with six colossal columns and a grand staircase leading to bronze entrance doors.
Queen Isabel II initiated the construction by laying the first stone in 1843, embedding a time capsule containing coins, newspapers, and the Spanish constitution.
The Spanish Congress building represents the democratic institutions through its hemicycle chamber, where deputies meet to discuss and approve national legislation.
Visitors can join guided tours on Saturday mornings between 10:30 and 12:30, except during August and early September, with valid identification required.
Two bronze lions guard the entrance, cast in Sevilla, while a central pediment displays Spain embracing the constitution among symbolic figures.
