Hermitage of Our Lady of the Carbayo

The Hermitage of Our Lady of the Carbayo stands on a hill in Ciañu, featuring a curved pediment and a three-tiered bell gable on its facade.

Built in the 17th century on the site of a former Romanesque temple, the sanctuary experienced French attacks during the Independence War, losing its crown and lamp.

The sanctuary houses a 1730 Baroque altarpiece with three sections, while the vault displays paintings visible through the structure of the altarpiece.

The hermitage maintains its side portico, typical of Asturian churches, and receives visitors who can observe both the architectural elements and religious artifacts.

Next to the church stands the House of Novenas, a 17th-century building that provided accommodation for pilgrims and later served as a school.
