Santa Maria de Montgrony, Romanesque sanctuary and church in Gombrèn, Spain
Santa Maria de Montgrony stands against bare rock cliffs of Sierra de Sant Pere at 1370 meters elevation, accessed by a stone staircase leading to Pla de Sant Pere.
The current sanctuary building was constructed between 1650 and 1652, replacing an earlier structure where Marian worship had been documented since 1400.
Local tradition tells of a shepherd discovering the Virgin Mary statue near a fountain in 804, establishing this site as a center for Marian devotion in Ripollès.
The sanctuary includes renovated hospitality facilities and maintains a forest track for vehicle access, while offering multiple hiking trails of different difficulty levels.
The Virgin Mary statue, rebuilt after an 1892 fire, represents the Virgin of Milk, making this sanctuary particularly important for breastfeeding mothers seeking intercession.
