Edificio Banco Pastor, A Coruña, Early 20th century skyscraper in A Coruña, Spain.
The Edificio Banco Pastor is an early modern office building in A Coruña influenced by Chicago School design, featuring vertical lines, pilasters, and decorative cornices that shape its appearance. The structure commands attention in the skyline through its height and ornamental geometric detailing across the facade.
Built between 1922 and 1925, this structure marked a turning point in Spanish architecture as one of the country's first tall buildings of significant height. Its construction demonstrated Spain's embrace of modern international building styles during the interwar period.
The building reflects the arrival of North American commercial design in Spain and shows how international architectural ideas were adapted to local banking practices during the early 1900s.
The building is located at the intersection of Canton Grande and Rua Nueva in downtown A Coruña and is easy to reach on foot. Daytime visits offer the best views of the architectural details and decorative elements across the facade.
The building was among the first few tall structures in the Spanish-speaking world at the time of its completion and drew attention as a bold architectural statement. Local craftspeople executed its geometric ornaments by combining traditional techniques with the new modern forms they were asked to replicate.
