Desert City, Plant nursery and botanical garden in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Spain.
Desert City is a plant nursery and botanical garden in San Sebastián de los Reyes with extensive areas for growing and displaying succulents, cacti, and drought-tolerant plants. The collection spreads across several hectares of land and offers visitors pathways through different planted zones representing various climates.
The garden was established in 2017 and grew from the vision of an architect and entrepreneur who wanted to create a new kind of botanical space. In the following years it developed into one of the largest collections of its kind in Europe.
The garden displays plants from different regions of the world and combines Mediterranean species with exotic varieties from distant climates. The sections are arranged so visitors can explore varied landscapes and experience their distinctive features firsthand.
Access is possible year-round and the pathways are well marked so visitors can easily explore the different sections. It is best to wear comfortable shoes since you will walk a lot and the sun can be strong in the open areas.
Several hundred cactus species grow here, including tiny specimens that are barely larger than a marble. This outstanding collection makes the site one of the most important places for this plant family in all of Europe.
