Casa Ramon Casas i Gatell, Barselona'da konut binası
Casa Ramon Casas i Gatell is a partially destroyed residential building in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, constructed from Montjuïc stone and clay brick with three vertical groups of windows and ornamental balconies. The structure features a rounded arch entrance with carved stonework and originally contained multiple floors with painted wooden details and tiled surfaces.
The house was designed by architect Antoni Rovira i Rabassa between 1892 and 1899 on a site where an old factory once stood, built by the Casas family as their new residence. In the 20th century it served as a studio for the artist and later as retail space before suffering damage that led to its current condition.
The house was home to painter Ramon Casas and reflects how an artistic family lived during the late 1800s. The rooms and their design show how prosperous artists of that era arranged their domestic spaces.
The house is located at Passeig de Gràcia 96 in the Gothic Quarter and is easy to spot from the street thanks to its stone decorations and distinctive style. Since it is not a museum and not regularly open to the public, visitors can only view the facade from outside.
The house once hosted a gymnastics society in the 1860s and later contained a military tailoring workshop, showing its role extended beyond residential use. A commemorative plaque from 2014 marks the artist's birthplace for passersby to discover.
