Simien Mountains National Park, National park in Semien Gondar Zone, Ethiopia.
Extending over 220 square kilometers, the national park contains deep valleys, cliffs, and mountains reaching elevations from 1,870 to 4,500 meters above sea level.
C. W. Nicol established the park in 1969, leading to its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 for natural preservation and ecological importance.
The Amhara people maintain agricultural practices and livestock herding traditions near the park boundaries while supporting conservation initiatives within the protected area.
October through March provides optimal conditions for hiking and wildlife observation, with local guides available to lead visitors through designated trails.
The national park protects several species found nowhere else, including the Ethiopian wolf, gelada baboon, and Walia ibex among its diverse mountain ecosystems.

Ethiopia features medieval churches in Lalibela, mountain ranges in Simien National Park and ancient obelisks in Axum. The Danakil region displays sulfur springs and salt plains. The historic city of Harar Jugol and Bale Mountains complement the geological and cultural elements. Monasteries on Lake Tana islands, volcanic areas and national parks present the natural and architectural diversity of Ethiopia.
