Alavus Church

Alavus Church is a protected church building with a plastered structure and hip roof located in Alavus, Finland. The interior contains three historic chandeliers that came from an earlier church on the same site.

Construction was completed in 1914 by architect Kauno Kallio, marking the fourth religious structure built on this site since the first pulpit was established in 1674. The adjacent bell tower was designed by Juho Kohlström and finished in 1826.

The altar features a painting by Oskari Paatela depicting Christ being taken down from the cross. Inside, the space preserves elements typical of Finnish church interiors from the early 20th century.

The church can seat around 800 people and includes modern facilities such as a nursery area and a bridal room. Broadcasting equipment was installed during 1992 renovations, allowing services to reach a wider audience.

Three bells from 1746 remain in working order and can be heard ringing across the town. These ancient bells have survived through centuries of change on the same site.
