Tesoma, Residential district in Tampere, Finland
Tesoma is a residential district in the western part of Tampere, made up of eight neighborhoods: Epilänharju, Tohloppi, Haukiluoma, Lamminpää, Myllypuro, Ikuri, Ristimäki, and Tesomajärvi. The area is laid out around residential streets and has a welfare center and a shopping center at its core.
Tesoma was largely rural land until well into the 20th century, when planned urban expansion turned it into a residential district. The growth of Tampere as an industrial city pushed development further west and brought housing and services to this part of the region.
The Westeri shopping center and the welfare center share the same building, which shapes how residents move through their daily errands. Shopping, library visits, and health appointments all happen in the same place, which is unusual for a Finnish neighborhood.
Tesoma is located west of Tampere city center and is served by several bus lines that connect it to the rest of the city. The district is easy to get around on foot once you arrive, with daily facilities close to most residential areas.
Lake Tohloppi sits inside the district, surrounded by residential areas that back directly onto its shores. On calm days, locals walk the lakeside paths without ever leaving the neighborhood.
