Cultural Centre Valve, Cultural center in Pokkinen, Oulu, Finland.
Cultural Centre Valve is a Renaissance Revival and Gothic Revival building housing two theatre stages, a cinema, and multiple galleries. The facility spans 3,500 square meters and provides space for diverse cultural activities and artistic events.
The building was constructed in 1884 by architect K.J. Granberg following the Great Oulu Fire of 1882, which destroyed much of the city. It originally functioned as municipal offices and a Trade Industry school before being transformed into a cultural venue.
The center serves as a gathering place for theatre performances, concerts, and dance shows where visitors can experience various art forms. Its spaces host rotating exhibitions and film screenings, making it a venue where different artistic expressions come together.
The center is located at Hallituskatu 7 in central Oulu and is easy to reach on foot. Visitor conditions vary depending on scheduled events, so checking the current program ahead of time helps plan your visit.
The building houses the second largest film library in Finland and the Northern Photographic Centre, which operates two gallery spaces. This makes it a significant venue for film art and photography in the region.
