Paimpol, Coastal commune in Brittany, France
Paimpol is a commune on the northern coast of Brittany in France, sitting between sea bay and green hinterland. The center gathers around the old harbor, from which cobbled lanes branch inland and lead to gray stone houses.
The fishing harbor developed in the 19th century into an important center for Newfoundland cod fishing. The incorporation of Kerity and Plounez in 1960 expanded the communal territory considerably.
The name derives from the Breton Penn-Poul, which refers to the geographical position between two waters. Bilingual signs at the harbor and along main streets show regional efforts to maintain the Breton language.
The train connection via Guingamp allows direct arrival from larger French cities. The harbor and old town can be explored on foot, as distances remain manageable.
Every Tuesday morning the town center transforms into a weekly market with fresh fish and regional specialties. Many vendors offer oysters and mussels that come directly from the nearby bay.

A very lovely commune in Côtes d'Armor where it is nice to stroll on market days. Small enclosed port and Breton vibe!
