Medicis column, Historical column in front of Bourse de Commerce, Paris, France
The Medici Column stands 28 meters tall with 147 spiral steps leading to a viewing platform topped by an iron frame.
Built in 1575 by Jean Bullant under Catherine de Medici, this structure remains the final element of the former Hotel de Soissons.
The column reflects Renaissance architectural influence, drawing inspiration from the Trajan Column in Rome with its fluted design and proportions.
The monument can be reached through the Louvre-Rivoli or Les Halles metro stations, with the column visible from the Bourse de Commerce plaza.
Catherine de Medici commissioned this astronomical tower for her astrologer Cosimo Ruggieri, with its top platform aligned to cardinal points.
