Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, Opera house and theatre in Place de la Comédie, Bordeaux, France
The Grand Théâtre features a neoclassical facade with twelve Corinthian columns supporting statues of nine Muses and three goddesses: Juno, Venus, and Minerva.
Architect Victor Louis completed the construction of this opera house in 1780, which later served as the French Parliament's National Assembly in 1871.
The venue houses the Opéra National de Bordeaux and Ballet National de Bordeaux, presenting performances ranging from Monteverdi to Britten, Mozart, and Verdi.
The theatre maintains a capacity of 1,100 seats and operates with 110 orchestra musicians, 38 ballet dancers, and 37 choir members.
The Grand Théâtre stands as one of Europe's oldest wooden frame opera houses that has never burned down or required complete reconstruction.

City of light and stone, Bordeaux tells a piece of French history with every street. From the gilded facades of the 18th century to the redesigned quays along the Garonne, the Gironde capital combines classic elegance with modern dynamism. Strolls can be enjoyed among the columns of the Grand Théâtre, the reflections on the Water Mirror, the streets of Old Bordeaux, and the lively terraces of Saint-Pierre. Here, wine is not just a beverage; it's a culture. The Cité du Vin, museums, and traders remind us that vineyards have shaped the identity of an entire region. Bordeaux is also a forward-looking city, influenced by alternative venues like Darwin, bustling markets, and UNESCO-listed heritage. A city that embodies both tradition and innovation, blending art, cuisine, and river calmness.
Bordeaux offers numerous photography sites from the medieval Porte Cailhau to the modern Cité du Vin. The city features historical gates, stone bridges, public gardens, and architectural landmarks. Photographers can capture the Gothic Basilique Saint-Michel, the neoclassical Grand Théâtre, and the Place de la Bourse with its water mirror. The Darwin Ecosystem presents urban culture venues, while the Quai des Chartrons provides waterfront views.
